4 Things I Wish I Knew About the Fitness Industry (and you should know too)

A few things to note.

Whether you’re looking for a personal trainer, already coaching clients, or looking for general fitness information, there’s a lot more to this industry than just workouts and meal plans.

After nearly six years as a PT, I’ve learned that the best trainers aren’t just the ones who know things—they’re the ones who understand people.

And if you’re looking to learn, knowing what separates the industry is key.

Here are 4 things I wish I knew sooner:

1. It’s More Than Just Knowing Workouts

  • A great PT isn’t just a walking encyclopedia of exercises—they know how to communicate, adapt, and meet people where they’re at. The best trainers make fitness simple, not overwhelming.

2. Followers Don’t Always Equal Skill

  • A shredded physique or a viral TikTok doesn’t mean someone is a great coach. The best trainers focus on their clients first—not just their follower count.

3. Not Every Client (or Trainer) is the Same

  • Some people love training, others hate working out and struggle to stay consistent. A great PT isn’t there to make every client obsessed with the gym—they’re there to help them build a plan that works for their life.

4. The Biggest Struggle? Sticking to It

  • Most people don’t fail because they don’t know what to do—they fail because they can’t stay consistent. Whether you’re a trainer or looking for one, habit-building and accountability matter more than the “perfect” program.
